Competing in the World, Free in the Heart | Retreat Day 7 | 17 July 2026
"Competing in the World, Free in the Heart" — A Dhamma talk by Tan Ajahn Anan, translated from Thai into English. In this teaching, Tan Ajahn Anan explains that competition in the world naturally strengthens our sense of self, giving rise to attachment to winning and aversion to losing. Wherever there is competition, there will inevitably be winners and losers. He encourages us to understand this with wisdom, let go of attachment, and cultivate muditā—rejoicing in the success and happiness of others. Through mindfulness, wise reflection, and right understanding, he shows us how to enabling us to strive with diligence in the world while maintaining a heart that is peaceful, balanced, and free. May this teaching deepen your meditation practice and inspire the cultivation of mindfulness, loving-kindness, wisdom, and inner peace. This Dhamma talk was given on 17 July 2026 for participants of the Ajahn Anan In-person & Online Retreat (11–18 July 2026).
