Gain Flexibility in 60 min w/ this INTENSE Deep Stretch Yoga Class - Five Parks Yoga w Erin Sampson

This intense deep stretch class is designed to help you build greater flexibility while creating a more balanced, well-rounded yoga practice. Throughout class, I’ll share tips and techniques to support your progress, with clear verbal cues to help you stretch safely and effectively from head to toe. So how do we create intensity in a deep stretch class? By actively engaging opposing muscle groups while holding deep stretch postures. That balance of effort and release is what makes this practice so powerful, and gives this class its name. We begin with a seated warm-up, then move into sun salutations to warm the muscles and mobilize the joints. From there, we explore deep stretch highlights including runner’s lunge with funky half splits, quadricep stretch and twist variations, and half pigeon pose with options. You’ll also have the opportunity to work toward full splits, hanumanasana, with plenty of verbal and visual alignment guidance along the way. As class continues, we open the chest and mobilize the spine in half camel and camel pose, then counter with rabbit pose to stretch the back body. We move into deep seated hip openers like firelog pose and cow face pose, then revisit the hamstrings with heron pose and janu sirsasana, forehead-to-knee pose. We close with reclined postures, including fish pose for the chest and throat, and banana pose for a long and deep side body stretch, before ending with the most important pose of all: savasana.
