Exploring the Abandoned Harrisburg Mall before demolition

Serving the capital city of Harrisburg for over 50 years, the Mall first opened in 1969. During its construction, a limestone cave was discovered under the soon to be mall. The cave was then dynamited and found to have been unstable for the mall to be built on top of. Sadly, no pictures of this cave exist. over the 50 years of operation, many anchor stores came and went, Macy's, Wanamakers, Gimbels, JCPenney, but nothing was staying around. in 2004, a revitalization project started to bring more people back to the mall with new exterior design and an added Movie Theater. these additions brought attention back to the mall until 2020, and most businesses never returned after the Mall reopened. In 2024, plans were made by the ownership group to demolish the mall for a new group of one story strip mall style buildings, made to create more economy in the area, while destroying the perfectly good historic already existing mall that was beloved by the community. Til this day, people miss the Harrisburg Mall and never wanted it demolished. Sadly all over the world, old buildings are being replaced with ones with no heart, oversea corperations destroying historic buildings in the communities it serviced. Let me know what you thought in the comments of what can be can be done to your local dead mall ? thanks for watching and have a good day ! business email [email protected] ig @dark.exploration
