Harrisburg Mall Demolition | Aerial PA

Demolition of the Harrisburg Mall in Swatara Township, Pennsylvania, commenced in early 2024, marking the end of its 54-year history as a central retail destination in the region. The process began with the dismantling of the former Macy’s building. The redevelopment project, spearheaded by St. John Properties, aims to transform the site into the “Swatara Exchange,” a mixed-use business community featuring retail spaces, offices, and other commercial facilities. The demolition is expected to be completed by the end of 2025. While most of the mall is being demolished, certain establishments like Bass Pro Shops and Applebee’s Grill & Bar will continue to operate during and after the redevelopment . The project is anticipated to bring approximately 1,000 new jobs to the area, contributing to the local economy.
