We live in a remote farmhouse in northern Italy, where winters are long, silent, and temperatures often stay below freezing, dropping down to -10°C / -15°C. In this video we show how we heat our home during the coldest weeks of the year using a biomass heating system, combining a cast iron wood stove with a wood gasification boiler and a 1500-liter thermal storage tank. We explain how we organize heating throughout the day, how a small amount of firewood can heat the house and hot water for 24 hours, and why we choose lower indoor temperatures. This is not just a technical video, but a reflection on cold, adaptation, and a simpler rural life.
