NEW Lovecraftian Horror Expeditions in a Cursed Island Jungle! - The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu

The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu feels like somebody blended Hunt: Showdown 1896 with Deep Rock Galactic and then drenched the entire experience in Lovecraftian horror. In this co-op PvE extraction game, you and up to three other players set out from your galleon into cursed jungles and haunted islands in search of treasure, all while trying to survive whatever monstrous horrors are waiting in the darkness. For this closed beta playtest I focused mainly on the solo experience, but even alone, the atmosphere immediately stood out. The jungle environments are absolutely gorgeous, the sound design does a fantastic job building tension and there's a real sense of danger as reality itself begins to distort around you. Combat, exploration and treasure hunting all felt satisfying, although there were definitely some rough spots too. I encountered a fairly major audio bug during my session and the AI companion could use some improvements if solo play is going to remain a viable option long term. That said, the core concept here feels really strong and I can absolutely see this being a fantastic experience with a full group of friends exploring these cursed islands together. Part of me almost wishes it leaned harder into being a single-player Lovecraftian horror adventure because the setting and atmosphere are genuinely excellent, but hopefully the PvE extraction format finds the right audience when the game launches next month.
