Acheilidh Level Crossing, Highland

Official name: Acheilidh No.2 Level Crossing Pronounced: 'A-kay-lee' Date filmed: Thursday the 11th of July 2024 Video filmed at 10:34 Route: Far North Line Between Lairg (LRG) and Rogart (ROG) Stations Crossing type: Automatic half Barrier Crossing Locally-monitored by train crew (ABCL) Filming location: Acheilidh, Rogart (IV28 3UB) A locally-monitored level crossing located on a remote and pretty part of the Far North Line roughly equidistant between Lairg and Rogart stations and just off of the A839 main road through the area. If you're lucky, you may see wild goats on that road just east of the village of Pittentrail. The road across this level crossing is quite quiet for traffic and climbs quite steeply just after the level crossing. This is another crossing with an early barrier installation compared to others in the area, and they're also fully integrated into the control system rather than 'bolted on' to it. Neither alarm at this crossing sounds perfectly even, and one is much quieter than the other.
