Tuesday, October 28, 2025 Governor Apolo Safanpo Inspects Provincial Road Construction Merauke - South Papua Governor Apolo Safanpo and his entourage inspected road construction at several locations being undertaken by the provincial government. The inspection, conducted on Tuesday (October 28, 2025) afternoon, began from Tanah Miring to Kurik. Governor Apolo got out of his official vehicle for discussions with workers and road construction workers at each section of road under construction. During the discussions, the governor inquired about construction progress, checked the road's quality, and set the completion date. Governor Apolo was accompanied by Erik Fonataba, Head of the Merauke Highways Work Unit, and the South Papua Provincial Public Works Agency, along with several heads of Regional Apparatus Organizations (OPDs) within the South Papua Provincial Government. He explained that during his field visit, he personally inspected the provincial road, which was built in 2025, covering the first segment from the Seven Guardians Bridge to the Kuprik intersection. The second segment runs from Denzipur 11 Merauke to Kodam XXIV/Mandala Trikora. Then, the third segment is on SP 9, a sloping road that reaches the Neto bridge at the Kumbe River. The fourth segment continues with the road section from Gustavira to Kurik, ending at the end of the year at the Wonorejo intersection. "We hope that in 2026, we will continue the project from Wonorejo towards the Kumbe River estuary, and then from Kumbe to the Bian River," said Governor Apolo in an interview. "To ensure that the work volume is in line with the planned progress, we came today to conduct a direct field inspection with the Merauke Highways Office," he added. Through this inspection, he said, he and his group observed two things: first, the progress of the work volume based on the time schedule, and second, the quality of the work. "We ensure that the quality of the work carried out in the field matches the planned quality," said the former Rector of Cenderawasih University. In addition to road construction, he said, the South Papua Provincial Government will build infrastructure in four regencies within the province. These four regencies are Merauke, Boven Digoel, Mappi, and Asmat. "The infrastructure development we are undertaking includes infrastructure in the four regencies within South Papua Province, including transportation and other infrastructure," he said. He explained that transportation infrastructure includes roads, bridges, airports, ports, and other infrastructure. Furthermore, other infrastructure includes school buildings, dormitories, hospitals, community health centers, and more. The South Papua Provincial Government is committed to implementing infrastructure development to support and sustain economic growth in the region.
