Budha Subba and His sister Subbini The legend of Budha Subba and his sister Subbini is an enchanting tale from eastern Nepal. While hunting, they accidentally shot a crow and struck a bamboo, causing crows to avoid Vijayapur and the bamboo to stop growing. Budha Subba then buried his slingshot in peace and meditated at the site, which became his temple. Nearby, Subbini's temple stands, honoring her in this mesmerizing legend. Both temples are now spiritual landmarks. Kiranteswar Budha Subba, also known as Kiranteshwar, is a fascinating figure in Nepal's syncretic traditions. The legend blends Hindu and indigenous Kirat beliefs, depicting cultural harmony. It tells of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, disguised as the Kirat king and queen, visiting Vijayapur during a hunt. Ekalabya At some point, the warrior Eklabya, while wandering, came to this place and passed away in a state of peace. There is a legend that his followers covered his tomb with soil and later started promoting it as a Siddha Peetha, naming it Budha Subba.. The tradition of writing names on bamboos at the Budha Subba temple once captivated young lovers, promising a successful relationship. However, this threatened the natural environment, leading to a ban. In its place, a new tradition—tying a thread around the bamboos during worship—has emerged, believed to carry the same promise of love. This evolution preserves both tradition and nature, allowing lovers to express their hopes in harmony with the environment.Every Saturday, the temple attracts many devotees who engage in rituals, including sacrificing roosters and pigs, to honor Budha Subba. Many Nepalese make vows at this sacred site, offering gifts in return for their wishes being granted.
