Warhammer Skirmish Solo Scenario: "Bones to Pick"
I'm still not ready to mingle with the Nurgle-worshipping members of my gaming group, so I have been looking into solo wargames for my doses of miniature violence. In this search I rediscovered my old Warhammer Fantasy Battles sixth edition Warhammer Skirmish supplement. It's a great booklet that the group was really into once upon a time, then got forgotten with years and edition changes. What I never realized is that a few of the scenarios have single player options. So I set about getting models and terrain ready for a battle against my greatest enemy: myself. The first scenario is "Bones to Pick". In this, a great battle has occurred, namely the last battle I played in our escalation campaign. My poor Empire free company and archers got run down by chariots and monsters, and now the survivors have to pick their way across the corpse-strewn no-man's land to get back to the army's camp. Unfortunately a pack of hungry ghouls has descended on the battlefield, feasting on the casualties. We have to get across the battlefield, avoiding or destroying the wretched creatures before more of them arrive for dinner. This battle uses the Warhammer Skirmish rules from the sixth edition of the game. These are nearly identical to the Mordheim rules. The scenario is from the Warhammer Skirmish booklet. There is also an FAQ from the 2002 Warhammer Annual that I am following. That said, this scenario could easily be used with 8th edition rules and armies.
