More than 1,300 preschool and elementary school children from 36 schools in Verona and the surrounding province participated this morning in the traditional event at the Verona Fire Department. The event was part of the City of Verona's project "Girls and Boys Discovering Verona," which aims to introduce students to the area they live in and raise awareness of the importance of the fire service. During the meeting, tips for preventing and dealing with emergencies were provided, with a view to promoting a culture of safety. Fire Department Commander Giuseppe Lomoro and Verona Prefect Demetrio Martino welcomed the children, who were eager to see their favorite firefighter in action. The drills opened with the lowering of the welcome banner from the training tower (the building used by the firefighters), followed by other simulations, including the burning of LPG cylinders, a fire inside a building with rescue operations using a ladder truck, and a car accident. The drones of the regional SAPR (Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems) unit and the units of the regional Canine Unit attracted great interest, with simulated searches for a missing person. The final intervention was the "clowns," the unruly firefighters who, with their patched-up vehicle, attempted a clumsy rescue operation.
