Henri Büsser: Portuguesa for Bassoon and Piano (1939) This unfortunately underplayed piece has a lovely balance of lyrical lines and technical moments. The tunes are apparently based on popular Portuguese songs from the time, but I can't for the life of me find what the originals would have been. Like much our best bassoon repertoire, this piece was written for the Paris Conservatory Concours and is part of my ongoing project to record French music.
