Prime Minister Narendra Modi, addressing the Indian diaspora in Melbourne, celebrated the city's strong Indian cultural presence, saying several neighbourhoods and markets are popularly known as "Little India" or "Mini India", reflecting the vibrancy and growing influence of the community. He also added a humorous touch by joking about the irresistible sales at Melbourne's Indian markets, saying people often end up buying things they never intended to purchase because of attractive discounts. Earlier, Modi began his speech by acknowledging Australia's Traditional Owners and paying respects to Indigenous Elders.
