Discover Italy’s hidden gems in its most northeasterly region, bordering Austria and Slovenia. You'll find a unique mix of Italian, Germanic, and Slavic cultures, with a variety of ethnicities, languages, cultures, food and landscapes. When I think of Rome, Milan, Amalfi Coast or Capri certain images come to mind, but before visiting Italy's north, I would have had no mental picture at all! If you are even remotely like me, then I hope to show you all of the wonders and beauty of this magnificent rural and remote region in Italy. I'll show you how (and why!) to travel here, especially to Friuli (an incredible wine region in the foothills of the Julian Alps & the Dolomites) and Udine (a quaint Venetian town with a medieval centre which is laidback yet brimming with Italian culture and cuisine). This is one of Italy's safest regions, with Trieste being arguably Italy's safest city and Udine being not far behind. Solo travellers - this is an incredible place to go 'off grid' yet feel completely safe. I visit some extraordinary wineries at Marina Danieli & Buttrio Castle (with tastings of course!) as well as tour around the castle. My accommodation was in a remote Italian farmstay, or 'agriturismo', which I have documented in another video and would highly recommend. If you love exploring lesser-known places and having authentic experiences, you are going to love the less-busy yet fascinating and exquisitely beautiful north-eastern region of Italy.
