Der letzte seiner Art—warum der Lanz Bulldog D 9506 heute mehr wert ist als ein Neuwagen (1952–1955)
No engine noise. Only silence. November 2005. A young engineer pulls a tarp off an object that has been sitting in a barn in the Palatinate region of Germany for thirty-five years. Underneath: rust, a chrome leaping dog, and a nameplate—Heinrich Lanz AG, Mannheim, D 9506, manufactured in 1952. A dealer was willing to pay three hundred marks for it in 1970. In 2008, a collector offered thirty-five thousand euros. Cash. This video tells the story of a tractor that has lived through three generations—not as a work machine, not as a classic car, but as a reflection of what a family remembers and what it forgets. We follow the Lanz Bulldog D 9506 from its delivery at the Mannheim factory in 1952, through its acquisition by John Deere in 1956, its storage in the barn in 1970, thirty-five years of oblivion—until its rediscovery by the grandson and the question: What is a machine worth when it stops working and begins to remember? Technical specifications of the Lanz Bulldog D 9506: Single-cylinder, four-stroke diesel engine, approx. 5,700 cc displacement, 45 hp at 850 rpm, water-cooled, direct injection, electric starter, 6 forward gears and 2 reverse gears, three-point linkage, hydraulic power take-off, unladen weight approx. 3,200 kg. The D 9506 was built by Heinrich Lanz AG in Mannheim from 1952 to 1955 — the last pure Lanz Bulldog without John Deere involvement, one of the most powerful single-cylinder diesels of its time, and today one of the most sought-after collector's items in German agricultural machinery history.
