Inability to engage in dialogue: if someone disagrees with those who oppose it, they are an enemy of the Virgin Mary. An arrogant "for me" attitude: "I will continue doing what I have done." Triumphalism in progressive sectors Reasons for discontent and protest They say that the document: 1. Was neither necessary nor even appropriate. 2. Comes from a Dicastery deeply discredited by scandals. 3. Causes confusion and division among the faithful. 4. Goes against popular piety. 5. It contradicts what other Popes have said. 6. It represents a concession of ground in an ecumenical effort that has proven humiliating for Catholics and ineffective in its results. 7. It is, in reality, an attack on the Virgin Mary; and behind this attack is undoubtedly the devil. Underlying Narrative People who see the Church threatened by dark forces: Freemasonry, progressivism, modernism, Protestantism... People, both lay and clergy, who have felt despised, misunderstood, mistreated, or marginalized during the pontificate of Pope Francis. People hurt or scandalized by the person and work of Cardinal Víctor Fernández. People who have long harbored and cultivated a deep distrust, distance, or open opposition to the Second Vatican Council. Four Basic Theological Criteria Theology is not governed solely by truth and falsehood. There is also what is appropriate and what is inappropriate. 1. Statements that literally contradict biblical texts cannot be part of, and do not become part of, the great Tradition of the Church. 2. The normative expression of faith requires the appropriate use of language. 3. There is a difference between using a term and defining its use. REASON: Every language has "literary genres." 4. Selective rejection of the legitimate Magisterium, except for very serious reasons, leads to the path of private interpretation characteristic of Protestantism. Are there historical precedents for adjustments and clarifications of language? Some examples: Mary as priestess. Divus Thomas. Language of "adoration." The argument of the Note: "Co-Redemptrix": see especially numbers 17 and 22. Mary as "Mediatrix of All Graces": see n. 24. Recent Comparisons Three arguments that have been raised in response to this Note are: No one understands that Mary is equal to Christ or that their works are comparable. "De Maria numquam satis" (There is never enough of Mary). It is known that a "co-pilot" is not the same as a pilot. Response to the reasons for discontent and protest 1. It is very difficult to define when a document on a topic that has been the subject of dialogue and discussion for decades is "appropriate." 2. If we do not want to fall into the ad hominem fallacy, something much better is needed to discredit this Note. 3. It is interesting to note that, in my research, I could not find a single shrine dedicated to Mary Co-Redemptrix. And it seems there are only two shrines that refer to Mary Mediatrix of All Graces. 4. Love and devotion to the Virgin Mary do not depend on titles that, in reality, have only had a superficial root among most of God's people, as is evident from what has been said previously. 5. We have already explained that using an appellation is one thing, and defining a title is another. 6. The Note does not present ecumenism as the main reason at any point. Conclusion 1. Unity in the Church is not achieved through shouting, threats, insults, or accusations. 2. Attitudes of general contempt toward the Pope or the Magisterium, even if disguised as zeal for the Church, cause immense harm, far more than they supposedly seek to repair. 3. In love, devotion, and closeness to the Blessed Virgin, we need, as in all our Christian life, the basic virtues. 4.
