Los “narco microondas” del Vraem: extranjeros acopian cocaína en Lima para venderla a mafias

The fight against drug trafficking in the country continues to reveal new methods used by organized crime. In an intelligence operation, agents from the Anti-Drug Directorate (Dirandro) raided a parcel delivery agency in Lima, where they seized two microwave ovens containing cocaine in brick-like packages. According to initial investigations, the drugs were allegedly stockpiled in the capital after leaving the Apurimac, Ene, and Mantaro River Valley (Vraem), one of the country's main coca production centers. The operation, carried out after several weeks of surveillance, led to the capture of Santos Delgado Saviño, alias "Kovachi," a Dominican citizen identified as a key player in a criminal organization dedicated to drug trafficking. The foreigner, who had resided in Peru for seven years, was stopped in East Lima with his wife and another person while transporting five bricks of cocaine. According to General Nilton Santos, head of the Dirandro (National Drug Enforcement Agency), the seized packages were samples intended for buyers in Europe, with the goal of closing deals for the shipment of a larger shipment. The investigation also indicates that part of the drugs were destined for the city of Hampton, Virginia, United States, demonstrating the network's transnational reach.
