David Bentley | All 21 goals for Blackburn Rovers
David Bentley arrived at Ewood Park in August 2005 on an initial loan deal joining the likes of Craig Bellamy and Florent Sinama-Pongolle as new additions to the Rovers squad. Eager to play regular first team football, that is precisely what Bentley received under Mark Hughes, with the right winger adding extra creativity to a squad that already had the likes of Tugay, Morten Gamst Pedersen, David Thompson, Brett Emerton and Steven Reid within its ranks. Bentley's first goal for Rovers was a dramatic 88th minute winner at The Valley as Rovers came back from 2-0 down against Charlton, to win 3-2 in the final 15 minutes. Rovers signed Bentley on a permanent deal from Arsenal in January 2006 and the following evening saw Bentley celebrate by hitting a stunning hat-trick past Manchester United at Ewood Park. The first Premier League hat-trick anybody had scored against United and one which will live long in the memory. Bentley's impressive performances in a Rovers shirt drew attention from the England National team and saw many comparisons made between him and David Beckham in regards to playing style. Bentley's set piece and crossing ability was on full show at Blackburn as he linked up with an array of quality forwards such as Bellamy, Santa Cruz and McCarthy, to name three, time and again, to great effect. During his three year stay at Rovers, Bentley helped the club to qualify for UEFA Cup football and also to finishes of 6th, 10th and 7th in the Premier League respectively. He also played key roles in helping Rovers to reach two domestic cup semi finals. With Bentley on one wing, Morten Gamst Pedersen on the other, and a midfield containing Tugay, Rovers had the ability to cause problems for any opponent, and that is exactly what they did. Bentley left Rovers in July 2008 and signed for Spurs for a reported fee of £15m. Whilst he fared ok in a Spurs shirt and made it into the England team, it is fair to say his best display of football came in a Blackburn Rovers shirt. Bentley says as much himself. He returned to Rovers on a four month loan in February 2013. However, this was not a frutiful return as he found the club to be unrecognisable to the one he had played for earlier. The club, sadly, being in a bad way under new ownership. Nevertheless, it is his first spell at the club that the Rovers fans will remember him for, back when the club was thriving and doing everything possible to succeed. David Bentley made 133 appearances for Rovers, scoring 21 goals. Here are all 21 of Bentley's goals for Rovers.
