We spend up to 90 percent of our lives in buildings. It’s where we are born, raised, educated. It’s where we eat, sleep, enjoy ourselves and it’s where we work, develop and prosper. They can significantly influence how we work and develop, “and who we become”. This makes buildings the heart of our lives and communities. One question comes to mind: how can buildings positively affect our lives, helping us grow as individuals while still tackling our society’s challenges? The answer is: by making them smart! What does smart mean? Smart means interacting, learning and adapting to the current daily situations. Smart Buildings actively contribute to wellbeing, efficiency, resiliency and safety. They adjust to meet the needs of their users by creating environments that care for the people within them and for the world around them. How will they do it? Smart buildings use the data they generate to be responsive to changing conditions and create efficiencies. By connecting the digital and physical world, it is possible to change the way people live and work. For the planet, smart buildings help to protect precious resources. Today 40% of global energy demand is through buildings and 75% building are inefficient. Can we do something about it? Yes we can. By constantly gathering and interpreting data with AI, smart buildings can make intelligent decisions about energy needs and applications, reducing the overall energy use significantly. For the people in them, smart buildings make spaces more trusted, comfortable and pleasant. They create the right conditions for study and work and help people to be more productive and focused. At the same time smart buildings are becoming easier to handle by reducing complexity and implementing intuitive technology. By connecting all types and sizes of buildings to the digital world it is possible to revolutionize our society. Buildings’ data is crucial to help give insights and control into its operations. They will make possible to have a sustainable future as well as comfortable, safe, secure places and ensure higher business performance. As Head of the Digital Buildings business segment, he is globally responsible for all software offerings and developments that manage HVAC, Fire, Security or Energy related information in a building, campus or a fleet of buildings.
