Bottom Coil vs Center Coil Antenna. Does Coil Placement Matter for DX?
I tested a bottom-mounted coil antenna against a center-mounted coil antenna on 40 meters using WSPR to see which one performed better for DX. The bottom-loaded vertical had a slightly higher total station count, but the center-loaded vertical reached more long-distance DX stations and showed stronger SNR on several paths into Europe. Does coil placement matter? In this test, yes especially for weak-signal DX.
