For Lo I Raise Up (Op. 145), C.V. Stanford - Cuore (live, 2024)

We celebrate Stanford's birthday in this centenary year of his death by sharing our concert performance of his mammoth anti-war anthem, 'For Lo I Raise Up'. Recorded beside the house where he was born in the church where he was later a boy chorister: the historic and atmospheric surroundings of St. Stephen’s, Mount St., Dublin (more popularly known as the Pepper Canister). Composed at the outbreak of WWI, this piece was left unpublished until the outbreak of WWII. The Old Testament text from Habakkuk is sadly still potent today, railing against 'That bitter and hasty nation, Which march thro' the breadth of the earth, To possess the dwelling places that are not theirs.' This was the final piece in our ‘Stanford 100’ concert on 16th June 2024. Cuore Chamber Choir with conductor, Amy Ryan and organist, Siobhán Kilkelly soprano solo, Orla Daly tenor solo, Garrath Patterson Audio and video by Kieran Tully.
