In Jungian Psychology, the Animus is referred to as the inner opposite or the inner man in every woman. This is the counterpart to the Anima, which Swiss psychologist Carl G. Jung defined as the inner woman in every man. Jung explained that when the Animus is unconscious, repressed, and disintegrated, this can lead to a complex called Animus Possession where a woman's masculine side takes a stronghold in the conscious personality. Someone who is Animus possessed is typically very armored as the Animus possesses for the purpose of protection.
