Oscillates nicely between soukous, rural blues and even a bit of funk. Based on repeated listening of some the lyrics I believe that Joseph Salambere and his band were likely from present-day Burkina Faso, then called the Republic of Upper Volta. The title of the first track references Kadiogo Province, of which the capital of Burkina Faso, Ouagadougou, is the seat, and there are repeated instances of the word "Volta" throughout the album. I have no way of confirming this information though, so feel free to correct me if you have said information. My two favorites are both on the B-side, and this is the kind of album that rewards repeated listening, so I advise you to turn your speakers or headphones up, sit back, and let the music wash over you. You won't be disappointed. As is the case with many records from Africa, this LP is in pretty rough shape, so I apologize for any dips in sound quality.
