一本の木から器を彫る。知られざる国産素材に命を吹き込む、木工家の美しい器作り【木工家・落合芝地】
This time, we filmed the making process and interview of Japanese woodworker Shibaji Ochiai, who is based in Shiga Prefecture. ■ Woodworker | Shibaji Ochiai Based in Shiga Prefecture, Shibaji Ochiai is a Japanese woodworker. After studying at an urushi training institute, he became increasingly drawn to making wooden bases and working with lacquer, eventually learning from wa-rokuro craftsmen and at a woodworking school before developing his practice in kurimono, or hollowed-out woodwork. Carving forms from a single piece of wood, he values the traces of the hand and seeks to bring out the natural strength and character of the material. Working mainly with domestic Japanese woods, including lesser-known species, he continues to create vessels that quietly accompany daily life while honoring each material he encounters.
