Infertilità: stereotipi, tabù e altri pericolosi predatori | Tullia Penna | TEDxRovigo
Mother is not synonymous with woman, and woman is not synonymous with mother. Infertility is a widespread phenomenon, contrary to what we might imagine, affecting 25 million people in Europe, one in five couples in Italy. It's a phenomenon that affects not only women but also men, and society often criticizes, judges, and hurts those who cannot or do not have a child. Treatments exist, but couples are forced to go abroad to circumvent legal restrictions. This requires inclusive law, one that does not follow an ideology but rather goes hand in hand with science. Its commitment is focused on the relationship between science, ethics, and law, with particular attention to medically assisted procreation techniques, gender-specific reproductive rights, and the role of genetics. Tullia earned her PhD in Philosophy of Law (Bioethics) from the Department of Law at the University of Turin, where she co-directed the program at Sciences Po Paris, where she lived for two years. The key to her research is interdisciplinarity, a method she developed during her studies at the Ferdinando Rossi School of Advanced Studies in Turin. She has participated in numerous public engagement events (including Researchers' Night and UniStem Day) and is the author of the book "The Gift of Reproductive Capacity: Assisted Reproduction with Gamete Donation and Surgical Treatment in the French and Italian Legal Systems." Among other things, she also runs her own bioethics blog, Penna Vagante. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
