Buying Old Shoes & Boots on eBay & Vinted – What Can Go Wrong?

Buying secondhand shoes on eBay, Vinted and Marketplace can sometimes be a bargain… and sometimes a disaster. We get a lot of secondhand shoes through the workshop every week. Many are well worth repairing and give people a great pair of shoes for sensible money, but occasionally we take a pair apart and discover they were never really worth repairing in the first place. In this video we show you a pair of Savile Row branded shoes that came in for a full rebuild, but once we stripped them down we found cracked uppers, poor materials and problems that meant they just wouldn’t last – so we will have to refund the customer. We also decided to have a go ourselves and bought a pair of Cheaneys online for under £30. They’ve got cracked commando soles but the rest of the shoe is in lovely condition, so they’re perfect candidates for a rebuild. If you buy secondhand shoes, it’s really important to check the welts, linings, insoles and uppers – not just the soles – as photos don’t always show the important bits.
