Rallarvegen (Navvy road) Vatnahalsen to Grjotrust

#Rallrvegen#Navvyroad The construction of Rallarvegen started in the 1890s, and the first section that was ready was the road from Raundalen to Upsete in 1895, west of the Gravhalsen tunnel. The road from Flåm to Myrdal and Hallingskeid was ready in 1898, and in 1902 the road was built all the way to Haugastøl. The construction was largely carried out as manual work. Due to the snow conditions, the work was carried out during the summer months, from June to October. The road goes through varied and magnificent terrain, and gives a unique and impressive impression of road construction with simple means and pure hand power. The standard is in many places good gravel road, while in steep parts the spring flood in many places washes away the gravel and leaves crushed stone or in the worst case pebbles. Maintenance prioritises the preservation of the road as a cultural monument. One can hope that this also applies to the old train route (line) across the mountain between Finse and Lågheller.
