"Nobody is outraged – only me," writes Lukas Bärfuss at the beginning of his essay, which the "Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung" (FAZ) published three days before the federal elections. Title: "Switzerland is insane." The country, according to Bärfuss, is on the wrong, right path. The political parties are to blame, especially the party orchestrated by a chemical industrialist, but also the media. "We want to be and remain a nation of dwarfs in this country," writes Bärfuss. The text is biting and direct. And the reactions were prompt. Bärfuss found himself under fire in the arts section. It's not the first time the 43-year-old from the Bernese Oberland has sparked strong reactions. This time, however, he seems to have stirred up a hornet's nest. What was the author's intention with his sweeping attack? Did many misunderstand him? Or is the situation in Switzerland really that bad? Roger Schawinski asks.
