PARCO NAZIONALE VALGRANDE L'avventura tra il Becco della Gallina e il Pizzone

VALGRANDE NATIONAL PARK: The adventure between Becco della Gallina and Pizzone In this video, we take you on a beautiful early-season hike in Val Grande National Park. As you'll see from our GPS track, it was about 5.5 km and took almost 4 hours to walk, perfect for warming up! What you'll see on this adventure: The area we're in also offers very accessible and popular trails, but we decided to abandon the classic trails and explore a particularly wild and off-the-beaten-path corner. We dedicated ourselves to pure exploration, combining old trails and forgotten passages. Starting from Alpe Basseno, we initially took a sideways route, following part of the old Becco della Gallina trail (a passage we had already rediscovered last year). It's important to point out that this trail's name comes from a rock formation, located higher up than the trail, shaped like an open chicken's beak. And this is where the real adventurous heart of the day began: driven by curiosity, we left the trail to climb vertically towards the rock. There was nothing to "look for," because it was clearly visible, but if so few hike this section, imagine those who would abandon the trail to climb up to see the rock formation... practically no one! Experiencing the "Chicken's Beak" firsthand: Leaving the horizontal path, we climbed along a marked physical ridge, arriving right at the cliff to see it up close and touch it firsthand. The climb to Pizzone: Continuing to climb in the same direction, we reached the "Pizzone," a spectacular and panoramic rocky section located just above the Beak. The old connections downhill: After this climb, we began our descent along the ridge to reconnect the pieces of the puzzle, until we emerged exactly at the intersection with the classic trail that climbs from Ponte di Velina. (A little note for those familiar with the area: our idea is that this entire ridge line was once a real trail used by mountaineers. A "direttissima" that connected Alpe Caseracce to Ponte di Velina, and vice versa, serving as a super shortcut that saved time compared to the long traditional trails!) Make yourself comfortable and come walk with us to discover this steep and fascinating corner of the Val Grande. Enjoy!
