It is colloquially referred to as "red lightning". On 4th October of 1913 Mallorca’s first electric tram line was inaugurated. The "Red Lightning" tram links the coastal town of Port de Sóller with the small hinterland town of Sóller. The latter settlement is located on the west coast of Majorca in the so-called "Valley of Gold", which owes its name to the thousands of orange trees growing there and the local olive oil industry. Sólller is nestled in behind the mountain peaks of the Serra de Tramuntana, with its flanks of orange tree plantations and pine forest. Enjoy this tram tour! Una de las principales atracciones turísticas de la costa oeste de Mallorca es el famoso tranvía que conecta la pequeña ciudad de Sóller con el distrito de Port de Sóller en la costa mediterránea. El 4 de octubre de 1913 se inauguró la primera línea de tranvía eléctrico de Mallorca. Este tranvía une la localidad costera de Port de Sóller con la pequeña localidad del interior de Sóller. Este último asentamiento está situado en la costa oeste de Mallorca en el llamado "Valle del Oro", que debe su nombre a los miles de naranjos que allí crecen y a la industria local del aceite de oliva.
