Sóller is a small locality situated on the northwest coast of Mallorca that for centuries was practically isolated from the rest of the island. Surrounded by the sea and the Tramontana mountain range, Sóller found it more convenient to trade with France, exporting mainly oranges, lemons and olives. In fact, it was not until the 20th century that Sóller had to face its isolation in order to continue to develop economically. As a result, in 1912 the railway to Palma was built, which facilitated trade with the rest of the island, although its definitive opening took place towards the end of the nineties with the construction of the "Túnel de Sóller" (Sóller Tunnel). Nowadays the Port of Sóller is a well-known holiday resort visited by a large number of tourists, especially in the summer months. It has a picturesque beach promenade, two beautiful beaches and a lively shopping area and although tourism has become its main source of income, vegetables, citrus and olive trees are still grown here.
