Speedy Write With Me Day 6

Word count in this video: 95,655 - 97,535 Chapter 26 Total goal: 350,000 words I was finishing up a writing residency this week, which meant I put in some long hours on the novel draft. I deprioritized making videos for every single one, but this captures the grueling long hours spent. This was two hours of writing, condensed wildly down. This week, I also went to see Ann Patchett speak, had a long shop talk with a writer friend, and read my work aloud during a virtual residency celebration with eighteen other writers from around the world. I also managed to break 100,000 words. On a personal level, my mom's boyfriend passed away this week after a short illness. My partner is also navigating something professionally difficult. Life keeps life-ing, and you always have to find a way to show up to the page anyway. From On Writing by Stephen King (the bible of that sort of thing) — "Stories aren't souvenir tee-shirts or GameBoys. Stories are relics, part of an undiscovered pre-existing world. The writer's job is to use the tools in his or her toolbox to get as much of one out of the ground intact as possible. Sometimes the fossil you uncover is small; a seashell. Sometimes it's enormous, a Tyrannosaurus Rex with all those gigantic ribs and grinning teeth. Either way, short story or thousand-page whopper of a novel, the techniques of excavation remain basically the same." ABOUT THIS CHANNEL This writing channel is an art project. It is not going to be optimized for the algorithms in any way. So if you found it, welcome! I'm glad you're here. I'm writing a book based loosely on Lonesome Dove by Larry McMurtry. I'm following McMurtry's narrative pace in order to understand how he built the book — the setting and characters and so forth are all my own. The channel is here to document my entire writing process, along with whatever else comes into my head to do here (probably some art and music, almost definitely some grammar and poetry videos). ABOUT ME If you want to read things I've written, you can find me on Substack with a cheeky Google search. Publication title: Play Theory. Thanks for watching!
