5-Day, Atlantic Passage With No Planned Stop | Florida to Washington DC

We cruise our Nordhavn 55 from Fort Pierce, Florida to Washington, D.C., tackling boat maintenance, offshore passage planning, overnight watches and show our real life aboard MV Explorado. After six months in the Bahamas, we’re back Stateside and the growing boat project list is immediately set into action. Before heading north, we give you the rundown of our new dinghy patch kit, we service our air conditioning, replace our Starlink antenna, inspect the engine room for 9 hours, have divers clean the hull, and retrieve a 100-pound hydraulic davit pump that has been stranded in Miami for months. Then we leave Fort Pierce and begin a multi-day Atlantic Ocean passage with no firm stopping point, following a rare stretch of calm weather up the East Coast. Along the way, we deal with a stern thruster issue, discover an expensive mistake with our wing engine shaft, explain offshore engine room checks, and adjust our route to stay within Starlink coverage. We also get an unforgettable front-row view of a Falcon X rocket launch and booster landing near Cape Canaveral before settling into four nights of offshore watches, rolling seas, sunrise shifts, and the strangely boring reality of a smooth passage. After rounding Cape Hatteras, we reach Virginia, enter the Chesapeake Bay, and continue up the Potomac River toward Washington, D.C.where MV Explorado will become our floating home base for the next few months.
