Calm Weather in the Exumas? We Didn't Waste a Second
Bitter Guana Cay and Gaulin Cay, Exumas by boat. This week we explore rugged Bahamas coastlines and beaches, hike limestone cliffs, snorkel a powerful tidal cuts and visit territorial rock iguanas, aboard our Nordhavn 55. This week aboard MV Explorado, we slow down in one of the most underrated corners of the Exumas. With the cruising season winding down and a rare calm-weather window opening up, we ignore the boat-life to-do list and enjoy where we are. We explore the wild shoreline around Bitter Guana Cay and Gaulin Cay South, including quiet beaches, small caves, fossils, flowstone formations, dramatic limestone cliffs, and plenty of Bahamian rock iguanas. With flat conditions, we finally get to snorkel places we normally can’t safely explore. We find what appears to be an old sunken catamaran near Lumbar Cay, cruise the clear waters around Staniel Cay, Big Major, Little Major, and Fowl Cay, and finally snorkel the narrow cut between Bitter Guana Cay and Gaulin Cay where water moves fast. We also climb the limestone cliffs on Bitter Guana Cay for incredible views over the Exumas and our Nordhavn 55, Explorado, sitting in the turquoise water below. If you love Bahamas cruising, Exuma snorkeling, liveaboard trawler life, Nordhavn adventures, endangered wildlife, remote islands, and real boat life after 50, welcome aboard. We’re Jenn and Dave, a Colorado couple trading snow boots for scuba fins aboard our Nordhavn 55, Explorado. WATCH MORE AND CATCH UP WITH US!
