Title: Types of Drainage Systems Description: Analysis of the main characteristics of drainage system types in buildings. Martínez Tortajada, J. (2010). Types of Drainage Systems. http://hdl.handle.net/10251/7954 Automatic description: In this video, the professor addresses the topic of sanitation installations in buildings, explaining different types and systems for wastewater and stormwater disposal. He focuses on the regulations of the Basic Document on Sanitation of Water Disposal of the Technical Building Code, in force since 2006. The professor describes the entire water cycle, which runs from collection to disposal in buildings, including the human consumption phase. The sanitation installations he analyzes are mainly pipes that operate by gravity and require a slope for drainage, or pumping systems when the collection point is below the sewer. It explains the characteristics and functions of the sanitation system and classifies water into white (from irrigation and rainwater), black (from toilets and urinals with organic waste), and gray (from domestic use). It details the parts of the sanitation system and its components, including the horizontal small drainage network, the vertical downpipes and the horizontal collection network, as well as the ventilation subsystems. It presents three types of sanitation systems: unitary, separate, and mixed. The unitary system is economical but limited in its application; the separate system is the most recommended, separating wastewater and rainwater; and the mixed system is a compromise that combines water in the final drainage sections. Finally, it emphasizes the importance of proper facility design, the selection of specific equipment and materials, and maintenance for the optimal functioning of the sanitation system, adapting it to the type of building and the urban, construction, and environmental conditions.
