Virgin, Breeder and Mated Queens 💯💥🐝
Mastering Queen Introduction: Virgin Queens & Push-In Cages for Breeder Queens! 🐝👑 Unlocking a high success rate when introducing new queens comes down to technique, preparation, and precise timing. In this video, we break down two essential queen introduction methods every beekeeper should master: introducing virgin queens and protecting high-value breeder queens using a push-in cage. 📌 What You’ll Learn in This Video: Virgin Queen Introduction: How to safely run virgin queens into a colony. Why you must destroy all existing queen cells first to prevent worker rejection or queen loss. Ideal conditions for success, including introducing them into freshly created nucleus colonies (nucs). Push-In Cage Technique for Pedigree & Breeder Queens: How to give your most valuable mated/breeder queens the maximum chance of safe acceptance. Step-by-step setup: placing the push-in cage over emerging brood and honey. Why this method works: as young nurse bees hatch under the cage, they instantly bond with, groom, and feed the new queen. Transitioning a queen safely from a non-laying state (fresh out of a mailing cage) back into full LAYING CONDITION before she is released into the main colony. 💡 Why the Push-In Cage is a Game-Changer Transitioning a queen directly into a colony carries risks, but a push-in cage eliminates the danger. By giving her safe space over emerging brood, she safely transitions into full LAYING CONDITION, spreading her queen pheromones naturally. By the time you release the cage 3–4 days later, the colony is ready to accept her without hesitation! Great Video here: • Michael Palmer releasing queens from under...
