Alcindo Tomé - uma viagem ao passado na Serra do Açor

In a remote village in the interior of Portugal, Alcindo Tomé, a former overseas combatant in São Tomé and Príncipe, recounts his life journey from a young age. At the time, his mother suffered a fall with a brush cutter, leaving her with the use of one hand. Alcindo, being the youngest son and having returned from overseas, had to give up a career in the police force and go back to his village to help his parents. He then made a life in the village where he was born and which still saw the heavy hand of the Estado Novo regime govern for another 10 years. About 60 years later, and after raising their children and them going their own way, Alcindo and his wife Maria see their village becoming emptier each year. To prevent their crops from being decimated by wild boar and a year's work from being destroyed, Alcindo has to fence off all the land he cultivates; even so, sometimes this invasive species still manages to get in. While herding his flock of goats through the Serra do Açor mountains, surrounded by the chirping of birds and the bleating of his goats, the wind rustling through the trees and against his wrinkled face, Alcindo fondly recalls his youth and easily loses himself in sharing those memories. #serradoaçor #serradalousã #shepherd #pampilhosadaserra #agriculture
