DEMONSTRATION OF HOW TO PRUNE A VINE THAT IS CONDUCTED IN THE FORM OF A VINEYARD I must indicate that this pruning is carried out in the south of Galicia, on a vineyard of albariña grapes. In other areas the pruning method may differ, but what I describe here is the general theory and practice, which I have learned in my pruning courses taught by graduates of the Xunta de Galicia (Spain). The basic concept of winter pruning, which is carried out when the vine is in a vegetative state, is to prepare the vines so that they produce the largest and best quality clusters, for this it is necessary to leave only a quantity on the wire limited number of rods, with a length or number of buds also limited, and with an equitable spacing between the rods in order to receive the greatest solar radiation. If an annual pruning is not carried out and the branches are allowed to grow, the vine will be forced to feed many fruits, which would be stunted and more sensitive to diseases. Pruning is, therefore, an obligatory work in the vine when it is dedicated to the production of quality grapes. IMPORTANT: In other regions, and depending on the way the vines are driven and the variety of the grape, the type of pruning may differ a little, for example in the number of buds that we must leave, such as in trellises, which is usually 2 to 4 buds maximum in the rods of each cord. Therefore, this pruning that I show is indicative and focused on the area of ​​the Galician Rías Baixas, which is where this type of high pruning is carried out in arbor.
