At Editora Pipoca & Nanquim, we follow this same philosophy and have already released comics adapted from classic books (Moby Dick) and movie scripts (Conto de Areia). Now, with undisguised pride, we present The Ring of the Nibelung, an adaptation of Richard Wagner's OPERA! The Herculean challenge of transposing an opera into such a different language fell to the brilliant P. Craig Russell who, after a long career that includes partnerships with Neil Gaiman (Sandman, American Gods, Coraline) and mainstream comics from Marvel and DC, decided to take on the task. The impressive result can be seen in our deluxe edition. So, let's chat about this masterpiece of the ninth art! Drawing on the rich narrative found in the Eddas, but taking advantage of the opportunity to include more elements of Scandinavian and Germanic culture, as well as other well-known myths, Wagner conceived Der Ring des Nibelungen, a work that was quickly acclaimed by audiences and critics alike. Since its inception, The Ring of the Nibelung has been performed hundreds of times around the world and adapted for various other media, including cinema. Becoming part of the popular imagination, the opera has influenced a plethora of authors, the most notable being the master creator of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, J. R. R. Tolkien. In the early 2000s, award-winning artist P. Craig Russell decided to take on the complicated task of producing the definitive adaptation of The Ring of the Nibelung for comics. First published as four miniseries, a factor that follows the original cycle created by Wagner, the work won the prestigious Eisner Award in the categories of Best Artist and Best Limited Series, in 2001. A more than deserved recognition, after all, it follows with extreme fidelity the opera that inspired it, under the masterful perspective of one of the greatest and most unique artists to have ever emerged in the world of comics. The definitive edition by Editora Pipoca & Nanquim includes behind-the-scenes art, adaptation notes made by the artist and never-before-seen sketches, and has 448 pages on coated paper, hardcover with localized varnish and bookmark ribbon.
