O maior mangaká de samurais: HIROSHI HIRATA e O Preço da Desonra | Pipoca e Nanquim #359
Who wants the new release of publisher Pipoca & Nanquim? \o/ It is with great honor that we bring to you a work of the master Hiroshi Hirata, a seminal manga artist who unexplainably was still unpublished in Brazil. The Price of Dishonor: Kubidai Hikiukenin, originally published in the 1970’s, contains everything that established this great artist: samurais, an astonishing artwork, a graphic narrative that is sharp as a katana and an incredible story based on real a historical context. It is a perfect opportunity to get to know a comic book legend who started his career in Japan in the 1950’s and is since then enchanting the world with his powerful and wise stories. A huge addition to the publisher’s catalogue and an important step to show the versatility of the imprint Drago whose intension is to publish great works, contamporary ones like Virgins over 30 as well as this classical one that up to now had been forgotten by the publishers of our country. MANGA SYNOPSIS: Hiroshi Hirata, known in Japan as one of the greatest authors of samurai stories, if not the greatest, is finally coming to Brazil. Just mentioning the word “samurai” is enough to evoke the warrior spirit, followed by nouns that seem to be directly connected to it, like honor, bravery and perseverance. And even though the samurai is the perfect warrior, protected by his armour and with the sword in his hand, the highlight of heroic stories leading his life based on a strict code of conduct, there is a dark side that surrounds these warriors and that challenges everything we thought we knew about them. In a certain time during the shogunate period in Japan, fights, that were carried out in the conflict zones, started to be negotiated and got an economic dimension, so that honor, tradition and glory were replaced by plain and simple trade. Through a bargain signed after the result of a sword fight the defeated was allowed to keep his head on his neck... Since he payed the right amount for it! In The Price of Dishonor Hiroshi Hirata explores this topic in seven stories that are cruel and fascinating at the same time, able do transform our perceptions of the mythical figure of the samurai and presents one of his greatest characters, the promissory note taker Hanshiro.
