ŻOLIBORZ | Warsaw | A pleasantly suburban atmosphere

Located just to the north of Warsaw’s City Centre, Żoliborz is one of the smallest districts of Warsaw – 8.3 km², of which 250 ha is covered by compact green spaces. After Poland regained its independence in 1918, the city of Warsaw started to grow rapidly. In the 1920s, the area of Żoliborz was converted into a borough of Warsaw and the construction of new houses started. Until the late 1930s, part of today's Żoliborz was built-up with houses notable for their modernist architecture. Open areas, parks and squares built there are regarded as fine examples of urbanist architecture. Also, a so-called Żoliborz Oficerski (Officers' Żoliborz) was built up with villas for the officers of the Polish Army and other notable people of the epoch. Żoliborz has traditionally been where the intelligentsia live. The names of its estates: Żoliborz Dziennikarski (Journalists’ Żoliborz), Żoliborz Oficerski (Officers' Żoliborz), Żoliborz Urzędniczy (Clerks’ Żoliborz) are derived from the professions of the district’s former inhabitants. ______ ✅ Please don't forget to like, comment and SUBSCRIBE to our channel by clicking on this link:    / @polandwalkingexperiences   ✅ Do please follow us on Facebook:   / polandwalkingexperiences   Credits: Rising Dawn by Ethereal 88 | https://ethereal88.bandcamp.com Music promoted by https://www.free-stock-music.com Creative Commons / Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) https://creativecommons.org/licenses/...
