At the time, he and his sister walked an hour to school in freezing temperatures and lived in a rundown home, reflecting the struggles of many rural families in China. In the years that followed, the family’s situation gradually improved as they began raising livestock. But things changed again after the birth of two more children, and now Fuman and his sister Fumei face the growing burden of costly high school tuition. Meanwhile, with China’s economy slowing, livestock prices have fallen, significantly reducing the family’s income and increasing pressure on the parents. I’ve visited the Wang family four times in the past. This video documents my fifth visit to their home.
