All of that is below the surface, though, these are things you can’t see from the outside, and sometimes you might not be aware of them yourself. A common avoidant symptom of that inner dynamic that is visible on the outside is what’s called an avoidant shutdown - withdrawal from closeness, shutting down, going cold or numb, spending a lot of time alone.
