But biblical giving is supposed to be cheerful, willing, and done from the heart — not forced, dragged out, or manipulated through long speeches and spiritual pressure. When an offering appeal becomes longer than the sermon, when people are emotionally worn down, when the preacher keeps pushing after people have already given, and when money becomes the central focus of the service, something is wrong. This is the kind of preaching and church culture that causes people to confuse obedience to God with obedience to a preacher’s financial demands. It also causes struggling people to feel like their breakthrough depends on how much money they can put in an offering bucket.
