Such a verdict was handed down by the Odessa coastal court to Serhiy Sternenko, an activist and ex-leader of the local branch of the Right Sector, in the case of kidnapping and torture. In 2015, Sternenko and his associates allegedly grabbed the head of the Odessa branch of the pro-Russian Rodina party and anti-Maidan activist Serhiy Shcherbych and threw him into a car. Then, according to the investigation, they were taken to the basement and demanded to give up their mandate - Shcherbych was to become a deputy of one of the district councils of Odessa region. Sternenko himself does not admit his guilt and denies the fact of abduction. He is convinced that the case was fabricated and he was imprisoned because of his active civil position. His lawyers will appeal the verdict and are already preparing an appeal. Sternenko was simply taken into custody in the courtroom. And the activist's supporters blocked the car prison, where the convict was to be transferred. There was a clash with law enforcement officers.
