All our discomfort is sustained by magical expectations we have of others. We depend emotionally and financially, constantly seeking validation...becoming increasingly immature and insecure. As a psychotherapist, I've noticed how we're often taught to avoid discomfort and seek quick fixes, but this approach, unfortunately, can hinder our true emotional growth. Infantilization in society and psychology: We'll see how extreme positive thinking and some holistic therapies can, unintentionally, prevent us from accepting the difficulties and suffering that are part of life. The inability to support oneself: I'll share some personal reflections on the need for constant reassurance and how this can lead to unhealthy dependencies. We'll discover the fundamental difference between a child and an adult: the ability to contain and process emotions. The importance of silence and self-sufficiency: We'll discuss how the constant search for external validation and the need to vent every emotion prevent us from listening to ourselves. Silence can be a powerful therapeutic tool for building inner strength. The "Emotional Plank": I will introduce a concept I believe to be fundamental: the ability to endure emotional distress without giving in. This "emotional resistance" is crucial for self-discipline, healthier relationships, and overall well-being. A Critique of "Magic Fixes": I will examine the tendency to seek quick, "magic" solutions to eliminate suffering, and why these approaches often fail to foster true resilience.
