Autismo, psicosis: ¿diagnóstico o estructura?. Conferencia de Neus Carbonell

Lecture in the series "A Date with Psychoanalytic Practice Today," organized by the Seminar of the Freudian Field of the Clinical Section of Madrid (Nucep). In the fields of psychiatry and neurology, autism is a diagnosis that takes the somewhat strange form of a "spectrum." Autism spectrum disorder is the paradigmatic example of what it means to base a diagnosis on "observable behaviors," which ultimately renders it profoundly imprecise. Therefore, as Jacques-Alain Miller so elegantly puts it: "Autism has lost its beautiful original simplicity to attract a multitude, and politics has gained ground in the clinic." Psychoanalysis distances itself from both the concept of mental illness and that of diagnosis. It focuses instead on the question of structure and the real. Our lecture will address the dilemma of considering autism as a diagnosis or as a structure. Neus Carbonell is a Member Analyst of the Lacanian School of Psychoanalysis. She holds degrees in Catalan Philology and Psychology, and a PhD in Comparative Literature. She has published articles in specialized journals as well as several books, including *Not Everything About Autism*, co-authored with Iván Ruiz, which has been translated into several languages.
