In November, as preparations for winter begin, I visited a briquette factory in Siheung-dong, Geumcheon-gu, Seoul, that has stood for 44 years. After a quiet summer, the factory now produces and ships out over 300,000 briquettes a day. A train from Gangwon Province arrives three times a day carrying anthracite coal, ten briquette machines operate tirelessly, and the factory employs over 130 honest workers who make a living from the briquettes.
