10 Different Sleep Apnea Surgeries

This animation quickly goes through 10 different surgical techniques to treat obstructive sleep apnea (OSA): 1) T&A (0:07) 2) UPPP (0:42) 3) Modified UPPP (1:10) 4) Expansion Sphincter Pharyngoplasty (1:42) 5) Lateral Pharyngoplasty (2:18) 6) Lingual Tonsillectomy (2:48) 7) Midline Partial Glossectomy (3:03) 8) Submucosal Base of Tongue Reduction (3:25) 9) Thyrohyoid Approximation (3:45) 10) INSPIRE device (4:06). There are many different surgeries to treat OSA given the many different anatomies and causes for sleep apnea in different patients. Not uncommonly, more than one surgery (multi-level surgery) may be required to fully resolve OSA in a given patient. Keep in mind that there are many more surgical approaches to treat OSA not covered in this video including mandibular-maxillary advancement, other types of hyoid advancement procedures, tracheostomy, etc. More general info on sleep apnea: https://www.FauquierENT.net/osa.htm This video produced by Dr. Chris Chang: https://www.FauquierENT.net Still haven’t subscribed to Fauquier ENT on YouTube? ►► https://bit.ly/35SazwA INSPIRE animation courtesy of Inspire Medical Systems, Inc.
