New Scientific Discoveries in Paleontology with Aki Watanabe
Watch 'New Scientific Discoveries in Paleontology', with paleontologist Dr. Aki Watanabe on the latest dinosaur discoveries, cohosted by the Collaborative Summer Library Program (CSLP) and the American Museum of Natural History (AMNH). A resident Research Associate at the American Museum of Natural History, Dr. Watanabe highlights exciting findings in paleontology from this past year in celebration of this summer’s CSLP theme, Unearth a Story. Featuring a live presentation and Q+A, this session invites CSLP members and their patrons to learn more about fieldwork and research from a real paleontologist! From cutting-edge imaging techniques to analytical tools, discover how scientists are using modern technology on ancient fossils that lead to new breakthroughs in how we study and understand the evolution, ecology, and behavior of dinosaurs and other prehistoric animals. Dr. Watanabe is an Associate Professor of Anatomy at the New York Institute of Technology and a Research Associate in the Division of Paleontology at the American Museum of Natural History. His research explores how key characteristics of modern birds evolved from their dinosaurian ancestors, with a particular focus on the evolutionary origins of the remarkably large and specialized brains found in living birds. This webinar, hosted by AMNH and CSLP, is part of a special professional development webinar series for CSLP members and features a presentation by Dr. Watanabe followed by a Q&A session.
